Detroit Techno Origins

Machine music made from city pressure, futurism, radio education, and small-room experimentation. Detroit techno is best understood as a web of studios, radio shows, synths, import records, and friends pushing funk into a colder future. Follow it through Juan Atkins and Derrick May, labels like Metroplex and Warp, and releases such as No UFO's, Strings of Life and Syro. The producer and contributor trail runs through Nigel Godrich and Rick Rubin, while the later movement points toward Berlin Minimal Techno and Chicago House.
